Eckhart Tolle and Raven Williams

I had to write about my wonderful experience meeting Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now, A New Earth, and Stillness Speaks, which are 3 of my favorite books.  How it happened is actually kind of a cute story.  So, my business partner, Wellness Guru John Salley, was invited to an intimate dinner with Eckhart Tolle and a few other guests.  I found out about the dinner…but not from John.  John knows how much of a- “fan” is not the right word, hmmm let’s say “devout student” of Eckhart’s I am, and had not even mentioned anything about the dinner to me, so I was a bit hurt- to say the least.  Truth be told, I was wondering why he hadn’t thought to take me.

Anyway, as the date of the dinner was drawing closer, I finally brought it up with John myself and flat-out invited myself! (With no shame I might add- Ask and You Shall Receive right?) He replied that he didn’t really have the right to just invite me like that but he would see what he could do.  This wasn’t really like John so I was a bit puzzled but I thought “OK well I know John, he can make it happen.”  So, when I asked him about it a few days later I was surprised when he told me abruptly that he still hadn’t heard back so he had no news.

At that point I realized that it was totally inappropriate of me to be emotionally attached to meeting Eckhart Tolle.  It surely could only be my EGO that wanted to meet him.  My true self wouldn’t care about this at all, it would know that it is just an illusion that I am separate from Eckhart at all…it would know that WE ARE ONE! Yes, I should know that I am already one with Eckhart so why did I want to meet him anyway? I went on with a conversation in my head like this until I felt that it would be ridiculous to be attached to going to that dinner and I gratefully went on with my life.

SO…on the day of the dinner I got a call from John saying he was gonna take me! WOOO HOOO all that conscious self talk about being one with him ran out the window and I was soooooo excited! Like I explained to John, I really believe Eckhart Tolle is an enlightened being and a true master and to be in the physical presence of someone like that is a very powerful experience! I had let go of my attachment and I got what I wanted…to meet Eckhart!

The cute part of the story is that when we got to the dinner, before Eckhart graced us by answering some of our own personal questions, they asked John to introduce him.

Before John introduced him though he told the story of how as soon as he had been invited  to the dinner with Eckhart, he had planned to surprise his business partner- Raven Williams (he pointed to me) because he knew how much I admired Eckhart.   He went on to say that unfortunately however he really wasn’t able to surprise me because I found out about it and invited myself! oops I was really grateful because he made sure that Eckhart new how much I admired his work and it was a really special evening. Eckhart was absolutely amazing!  Thanks John!!!
